Be Honest About Your Values

As a franchise consultant, matching franchises to a candidate's values is a primary reason we exist! When talking to clients, I ask them to be honest with themselves about what truly matters (eg: is money all that matters, or would taking a little less while having a better work/life balance and a career you enjoy getting out of bed for actually be more satisfying). Additionally, I advise them that they really will not know whether a franchise aligns without talking candidly to the franchise but most importantly with as many other owners as you can. Those owners already made the choice to join the franchise and will be more explicit regarding whether it aligns with their expectations now that they are living with that decision. To aid my clients, I use personality assessment tools to help their realization of what their underlying values are, but an honest personal assessment and asking hard questions is really the best way to understand what motivates them as they embrace the opportunity to own their own business.

I carefully examined a franchise's mission statement, operational procedures, and employee testimonials to see if their culture and beliefs matched mine. In order to comprehend their professed principles, I began by examining their websites, marketing collateral, and public statements. I then used LinkedIn to connect with current franchisees and staff members to inquire about their experiences and whether the company lives up to its ideals. In order to spot trends in business ethics and employee satisfaction, I also kept an eye on reviews on websites like Glassdoor. Important insights into the workplace and relationships with customers were also obtained by visiting an operating site. This thorough process made sure I selected a franchise whose principles aligned with my dedication to honesty, teamwork, and community involvement.

Combine Research with Conversations

I determined if a franchise's culture and values aligned with my own by doing thorough research and having open conversations with current employees. I looked into their mission statement, social media presence, and customer reviews to get a sense of how they communicate their values.

I also reached out to a few current or former employees to ask about their day-to-day experience and company culture. One of the biggest insights I got was how they handle challenges-whether they prioritize collaboration or focus more on individual performance. This gave me a real sense of their values in action.

By combining online research with personal feedback, I could confidently assess if their culture matched my values and work style.
